Intertextile Apparel 2027: new identity, focus on sustainability and performance

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is gearing up for its Spring 2027 edition (10-12 March) with a renewed identity and the new tagline, “Shape the Movement”, reinforcing its role as a leading platform driving the evolution of the textile and fashion industry.

At the heart of the fair remain the themes of Fashion Forward, Textile Future, Performance Textiles, and Sustainability, reflecting the key directions shaping the global market. Particular attention will be given to high-performance textiles and sustainable solutions, two of the industry’s most promising segments and areas where the organisers anticipate further growth and development.

“Shaping the evolution of the industry is exactly what this trade fair does with every edition. The new tagline reflects Intertextile Apparel’s unparalleled influence in shaping what millions of consumers around the world want to wear, how they want to wear it, and how industry players can turn those expectations into reality.”

Wilmet Shea, General Manager, Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd

Circularity and certified innovation

The leading trade fair for textiles and apparel will be held alongside four concurrent exhibitions at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai, bringing together thousands of exhibitors from the yarn and fibre, apparel fabrics, fashion, knitting, and home textiles sectors.

Two cross-cutting themes unite all of these sectors: functionality and sustainability. More than simple differentiators or competitive advantages, these aspects are rapidly becoming regulatory requirements in some of the world’s key markets.

In Europe, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is introducing mandatory performance requirements across a range of industries. This legislation helps safeguard the significant investments that apparel brands, material science companies, and the European Union itself have made in the textile circular economy, creating the conditions for further sustainable growth. Europe continues to be a key market for many of the suppliers and buyers participating in Intertextile Apparel, who have had to adapt and innovate to meet increasingly stringent certification and traceability requirements.

Performance and sustainability take centre stage

The Spring 2026 edition attracted more than 3,000 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions and over 96,000 visitors from 119 markets. Particular emphasis was placed on performance-driven and sustainable solutions, reflected in the significant expansion of the Functional Lab and Econogy Hub exhibition areas.

Forecasts indicate rapid growth in consumer segments that favour sustainable garments offering comfort and freedom of movement, driven in particular by sportswear and outdoor brands. As a result, both areas will receive even greater prominence at the 2027 edition, providing exhibitors with valuable opportunities to capitalise on these fast-growing trends.

Both areas will feature dedicated presentation and exhibition spaces. Hall 5.1 will also host the Pet Boutique, focused on China’s growing pet apparel market, and The CUBE, the Functional Lab area dedicated to high-performance textiles. The latter will showcase innovations across the categories of Thermal Regulation, Moisture Management, Comfort + Sustainability, and Protection.

A packed events programme

Alongside the exhibition halls, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition 2027 will feature an extensive fringe programme, including the Intertextile Directions Trend Forum showcasing Spring/Summer 2028 trends, a range of display areas focused on key market segments, and a comprehensive schedule of seminars, panel discussions, and product presentations.

The sessions will address topics related to design and trends, market intelligence and business strategies, sustainability, and innovative technologies and solutions. Particular emphasis will be placed on sustainability and functionality, two of the key forces driving the transformation of the textile industry, which will be explored from multiple perspectives across the sector.
