Woolmark has officially opened nominations for the next edition of the International Woolmark Prize (IWP), one of the most prestigious awards in the international fashion scene. The prize supports and recognizes emerging designers who stand out for their creativity, innovation, and experimentation in the use of Australian Merino wool.
For over 70 years, the International Woolmark Prize has been a launching pad for some of the world’s leading figures in fashion. Throughout its history, it has helped to showcase designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino Garavani, Rahul Mishra, and Gabriela Hearst, establishing itself as an international platform dedicated to creativity, innovation, and artisanal excellence.
As the Award enters a new phase in its history, the application criteria have been expanded to include professionals with experience within established fashion brands and organizations, as well as those who have founded their own independent brands.
What’s new in the program
Recent program updates include:
• The award has been extended to a two-year program, giving designers more time to delve into research and innovation and encouraging a design approach based on experimentation, learning and continuous improvement.
• The winner of the International Woolmark Prize will receive a prize of 300,000 Australian dollars (approximately 182,000 euros)
• The Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation has been expanded and transformed into an award open to the entire fashion industry, intended to reward companies and organizations that stand out for having redefined the boundaries of Merino wool innovation.
Applications are open in eligible markets worldwide. Upon completion of the selection process, the selected designers will access a training, mentoring, and incubation program designed to foster their creative and entrepreneurial growth. The program will also offer the opportunity to engage with industry experts and connect with Woolmark’s international network.
