A&E Gütermann, part of the Elevate Textiles Group, was born from the merger of two historic companies specializing in the production of high-quality sewing threads: Gütermann, founded in Vienna in 1864, and American & Efird, established in 1891 in North Carolina.
Since the 1950s, both companies have incorporated polyester threads into their offerings, a more versatile and high-performance material:
- A&E quickly expanded in the United States and Asia, following the growth of major apparel and denim manufacturers;
- Gütermann maintained a strong presence in Europe, with a particular focus on high-end men’s and women’s clothing, leather goods, and footwear.

The Product Range
- MARA, also available in the MARA rPET version made of 100% recycled polyester, is a core-spun sewing thread produced with exclusive MCT® (Micro Core Technology). It is ideal for apparel, leather goods, and embroidery, with over 700 colors available.
- SKALA is a fine, semi-transparent thread, perfect for invisible seams that leave no marks after ironing.
- MARAFLEX, made of 100% PBT, is ideal for elastic seams on jersey and knitwear. It can be used as a needle or bobbin thread, even in lockstitch, maintaining elasticity thanks to the low tension required.
- The Piuma and Princess ranges are designed for soft and flexible seams in direct contact with the skin. Ideal for underwear, beachwear, activewear, and sportswear, they can be used in both needle and looper positions.
- PERMA CORE, made of 100% core-spun polyester, is a highly resistant thread, durable against tearing and abrasion—ideal for denim and seams subject to high stress. It withstands treatments such as stone-washing and is suitable for use with automatic units and multi-directional stitching.
- The company also offers a range of technical threads for specific needs: with internal or external bonding, aramid fibers, water-repellent, and UV-resistant options

Technical Content and Training at SAMAB
A&E Gütermann enthusiastically welcomed the return of SAMAB. «It’s important that an event of this scale takes place in our country, to highlight the value of Made in Italy and the fashion industry. We were also drawn to SAMAB by its technical program, in which we will participate with specific content» says Monica Tabacchetti, Sales Manager Industry Italy for the company. «Events like this also promote a qualified generational shift, which is essential to preserve and transfer know-how. We invest heavily in supporting schools and technical institutes (ITS) in the sector, actively collaborating with the education world» she adds.

Technology and the Human Touch
«Tools like AI can bring real benefits in managing production data, inventory, and development processes, increasing flexibility and efficiency. However, we believe that the human component – creativity, sensitivity to quality, and the pursuit of aesthetics – remains irreplaceable. That’s what sets our products and our approach apart» states Tabacchetti.
